Pediatric Eye Care
Primary Eyecare Associates is a family oriented eye care facility. We examine infants and children of all ages. Experts agree that a child should have their first eye examination by age one unless the parents recognize a problem earlier. Our doctors are equipped with special devices and techniques for these young children. There is a certain peace of mind knowing your child's eyes are healthy. Most vision problems and eye diseases do not present symptoms. Do yourself and your child a favor, find out before the problem becomes permanent. If you have questions concerning our Pediatric Eyecare services, please contact us for a consultation.

LASIK
Our commitment is to provide you with the highest quality laser vision at the most affordable cost. We will only treat you if we feel an excellent result can be obtained. Dennis Matzkin, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialty fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery. He is a highly experienced LASIK surgeon and has performed more than 15,000 procedures. He is highly respected by other eye doctors and is the LASIK surgeon recommended by the most optometrists in the Atlanta area. Many patients have sought the skilled hands of Dr. Matzkin to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Unlike other centers, Dr. Matzkin personally takes time to examine all patients before and after the refractive procedure. The focus is to provide the highest quality care to each patient, not rush patients through a crowded office. His surgical skill and the personalized care have attracted many well known patients, including the children of former President Jimmy Carter, Chip and Amy. Amy Carter says, "The entire process was problem free … my experience couldn't have been better." This focus on quality care ensures optimal vision results for each patient. To determine if you are a candidate for Dr. Matzkin to eliminate your dependence on glasses or contact lenses, please contact us to schedule a consultation.Or read more information about Lasik HERE!

Eye Lid Surgery
As we age, it is common for the lid tissues to become lax and droop down into our upper field of view. While this is often considered to be a cosmetic problem, it can also be a "functional" problem when overhanging lid tissues cause eye fatigue from the added effort needed to elevate these tissues, obstruct your upper field of view, or cause eyelashes to hang down into your gaze. Most insurance companies and Medicare do cover eyelid surgery when it is functionally disturbing. For example, Medicare allows coverage when overhanging tissue blocks 12 degrees of the upper field of view or hangs down to within 2.5 millimeters of your mid-pupil. The consultations for the following procedures and others are available at Primary Eyecare. Saggy Eyelids (Ptosis) is a condition in which the eyelid margin itself falls lower. The levator muscle, which usually raises the lid, loses its hold on the lid, allowing it to fall. Ptosis repair involves tightening this muscle deep in the upper lid to better raise the lid. This can be combined with blepharoplasty, which is described below, if both problems co-exist. Excess skin over your eyelid (dermatochalasis) can be corrected in a procedure where excess skin, muscle, and fatty tissues are removed from the upper lid (blepheroplasty) under local anesthesia, eliminating loose, overhanging lid tissues. Stitches are placed in the skin for one week, and then removed. Some bruising and swelling is common for about one or two weeks. The lower lids can also become lax, allowing them either to turn inward, causing the lashes to rub against the eye (entropion) or to rotate away from the eyeball causing tears to run over the lid margin (ectropion). Skin cancers and skin tags are another common eyelid problem. Small cancers can be readily removed and closed with stitches, but larger ones may require a piece of skin from the upper lid or behind the ear to close the defect. If you have questions concerning any of these conditions, please contact us for a consultation.

ORTHOPTIC THERAPY
Orthoptic Therapy is a type of physical therapy for the eyes and brain - it is a highly effective non-surgical treatment for many common visual problems such as lazy eye, poor ocular mobility, double vision, convergence insufficiency and some reading and learning disabilities. Orthoptic therapy is often done as adjunct therapy to eye surgery but not replace necessary surgery. The first step in any therapy program is a comprehensive vision examination. Following a thorough evaluation, we can advise the candidate as to whether orthoptic therapy would be appropriate treatment. If you have questions concerning our Orthoptic Therapy services, please contact us for a consultation.
